Visa Cards -- Plan Your Next Big Purchase
Using a credit card
Credit cards aren't as evil as everyone makes them out to be. The evil associated with cards -- debt that tears apart people's lives -- comes from those who don't understand who to use credit cards properly. Typically the culprit here is the common thought that it's OK to live beyond your means on a regular basis, piling up purchases on your Visa cards without regard for what you are doing to your credit rating. That's not the way Visa cards and other credit cards are supposed to be used.
Managing your next big purchase
You work hard for a living, but even that is probably not going to give you enough money to make the big purchases in your life -- a new car, a remodeling job for your house, whatever. Then it's time to pull out your Visa card -- but that doesn't mean you pay for it and are done. You've just committed to making regular payments every month. Visa cards are not free money. It's like a loan, a contract that you have to stick to on a monthly basis. If everyone used Visa cards like they were free money, we'd create a culture where it was OK to be in debt. It may sound fine for everyone to have large balances on their Visa cards -- it's not your problem, right? -- but you don't want your children growing up in a world like that. Even now, companies are peddling their Visa cards on college campuses, trying to target younger and younger consumers.
It's a credit world -- know how to live in it
Visa cards aren't going to go away. We'll be working with credit for years to come. The key to our financial health and our sanity is learning how to use credit correctly, and Visa credit cards can help. If we can't, we should be using credit cards with a regulated spending limit, such as prepaid Visa cards or Visa gift cards. It's your future.
